Performed by:
Pinwheel

Description:
Originally at odds with one another, the protagonists Phoenix and Dragon become unlikely friends as they work together to transform a pebble from the bottom of the river into a magical pearl. This is a story about working hard to create something, losing it, and ultimately learning that the connection formed in the process is more important than the ephemeral object.

Magic Pearl was created by Max Gayford, Bo Lee, and Veronica Barron, with original music by Christopher Vu scored for flute, cello, and percussion. The show originally premiered in 2018 at Lincoln Center Education and has gone through additional development thanks to support from Puppet Showplace Theater, the Jim Henson Foundation, LiveArts Boston, and the New England Conservatory.

This special evening presentation of Magic Pearl is intended for the older audiences of our Puppets at Night programming. However, all ages are welcome, and the show is recommended for ages 5 and up.

Artist Bio:
Pinwheel is a collective of theater artists and musicians interested in making work that explores the relationship between visual storytelling and new music, founded in 2018. They hope to continue to fuel collaborations between theater artists/puppeteers and musicians in compelling live performance, creating opportunities especially for other Asian-American, queer, and BIPOC artists.
